Organic Cotton
This is made with GOTS organic cotton.
Living Crafts organic cotton is 100% GOTS certified by Control Union. The aim of the GOTS standard is to define world-wide recognised requirements that ensure organic status of textiles, from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing, through to clear labelling. This provides a credible assurance to you the customer that your choice is supportive for the planet and all those involved in its manufacturer.
You will feel the difference in quality when you touch organic cotton - it's something that gives us pleasure to handle here at Cambridge Baby. The reduced processing of the cotton results in a longer-staple, higher quality cotton that is softer on your skin. You know that it's safe for your baby and gentle and nurturing for your family.
Bamboo viscose
Bamboo viscose is an environmentally friendly synthetic fibre made from a natural resource, the bamboo plant. Its rapid growth makes bamboo a particularly sustainable raw material. Unlike trees, when a bamboo stalk is cut down, a new shoot sprouts up. This is because of its extensive root systems. Furthermore, bamboo is a genuine "CO2 hero", binding up to high levels of carbon dioxide through its rapid growth. The plant, which belongs to the grass family, is highly adaptable and hardy and can thrive in almost all climate zones. Thanks to its antibacterial and bacteriostatic bio-agent called bamboo kun, bamboo grows well without pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers.
From plant to fibre
Like other viscose fibres, bamboo viscose consists of the cellulose of the plant and is obtained via the wet-spinning method. In a complex process, resins and other substances are boiled out of the leaves and shoots. The pure cellulose is dried and pressed. To spin these cellulose sheets into a viscose fibre, they have to be re-liquefied in another step into a spinable solution. The spinning solution is pressed at high speed through fine nozzles. The result is a filament yarn that will then be drawn, lubricated, washed and dried.
A bit like silk as well as vegan
Bamboo viscose is very soft, shiny and breathable, and highly moisture absorbent. Plus it dries quickly and is temperature-regulating. Bamboo viscose is crease-resistant and also very similar to silk in many regards, for example in terms of its soft drape, and it is suitable for vegans. It is stretchy and has a wonderfully soft touch. Bamboo viscose is versatile, and is often used with other fibres as a blended fabric to combine the advantages of different materials, for example in combination with organic cotton.
