Wool has many benefits:
In this way, wool is a wonderful temperature-regulator, slowing down the effects of changes of temperature and helping prevent sweatiness by absorbing moisture and releasing it in response to the environment. This makes it a wonderful fabric for socks and tights for the whole family, as well as for athletes, cyclists, skiers and mountain-climbers. It's naturally high-tec and can't be beaten by synthetics!
Find out more about the properties of wool in our blog.
Dilute your wool detergent in cool water (max 30oc which will feel luke-warm) in a bowl. For heavily-soiled areas, use a little gall soap on your woollens first, testing on an inconspicuous area first.
Add your woollens to the bowl, gently stirring and squeezing the detergent through. Rinse using water at the same temperature, otherwise your wool will be subjected to "shock" and might felt up.
To dry, gently squeeze water out and wrap your wool clothes in a towel to remove the excess water.
Air-dry naturally avoiding direct heat. So, hanging on a drying rack over the bath is good, or on a clothes horse, or flat on a dry terry towel.
Re-shape while damp.

"Beautiful socks. They were much larger than expected. I ordered size 18-24 months but they won't fit my 2 year old for a year at least. We're still using them for bed and even just being worn in bed, they've bobbled to almost beyond recognition in a few weeks. I'm a little disappointed, but they are beautiful and very warm."
This was washed... not needed washing yet
This was worn by... My 2 year old

"I bought two pairs of these for my granddaughters. I used them as their Xmas stockings and then they put them on to keep their feet cosy on Christmas day. They loved them - perfect!"

"Nice thick socks but they don't stay on as well as other socks we've had. Hoping slippers keep them in place when we are out and about, but when rolling on the mat they are off in seconds. Beautiful colours (mango and red colour ways) and the wool is lovely."
This was worn by... Active 8 month old
"These socks are so beautiful, and so cosy. The colours are bright and they wash well (gentle wool wash). They are quite chunky, suitable for wellies but not regular shoes. Drawback: they have worn out at the heel quite quickly, and I don't know how to darn!"
This was worn by... very active children
