Cambridge baby have kept my babies cocooned in natural breathable fibres from the day they were born. Once I found out about merino wool, and natural fibres generally, we suffered alot less with skin problems like you get from wearing polyester or polycotton. The items all wear well, and the kids still have their merino wool blankets on their beds. The onesies for a newborn or young baby in the depths of winter are a life saver. The team always provide a wonderful service. I've used for myself and for baby gifts and it's brought alot of joy to alot of babies and mummies knowing they are clothing their little ones in the best fabric out there. As the kids grow I have used more of the organic cotton because of its amazing washability but still buy them merino vests and blankets etc. Thank you so much for being part of such a special time in my life as as Mum. ..

A truly comfortable Winter hat.

This is made in 100% organic Merino wool certified as organic by IVN to GOTS standards. It has an organic cotton lining that is also certified as organic.

Merino wool is a kind of wool fibre that is very fine, soft and springy and is not itchy at all to most skins. The Merino sheep usually thrives in mountainous areas at high altitudes and its wool is naturally brilliant at keeping the body comfortable at a wide range of temperatures.

All certified organic wool comes from sheep which have been farmed organically and with high animal welfare standards. The organic status refers to all stages of manufaturing process from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labeling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.

Wool (and thus Merino wool) has many benefits including being anti-bacterial and allowing the body to regulate its own temperature. See the blog for more details.

Organic cotton is grown without the use of chemical fertilisers. The reduced processing of the cotton also results in a longer-staple, higher quality cotton that is softer on your skin.

Included in the organic certification are standards that ensure the welfare of those involved in the farming and production of the clothing, so that you can be assured that nobody has been exploited along the way.

You will feel the difference in quality when you touch organic cotton - it's something that gives us pleasure to handle here at Cambridge Baby, and you know that it's safe for your baby and gentle and nurturing for your family.

Wool is naturally self-cleaning, the outer surfaces of the fibre pushing dirt down and off itself. It's naturally anti-bacterial and neutralises odours too... so after wearing, the best thing to do is to hang your wool to air.

Reiff's organic Merino wool with cotton lining items must be washed with care. Relax recommends hand washing in cold water that is less than 10oc.

Use a detergent designed for wool which protects and repenishes wool's natural oils as sold in our fabric care category here.

To hand wash, dilute your wool detergent in a bowl.

Add your wool with organic lining garments to the bowl, gently stirring and squeezing the detergent through. Rinse using cold water

To dry, gently squeeze water out and wrap your wool clothes in a towel to remove the excess water. Air-dry naturally avoiding direct heat. So, hanging on a drying rack over the bath is good, or on a clothes horse.

Amazing Toddler Hat

"We bought this for our one year old last year. He's currently using it for the second year. It's held up well and still looks brand new. He absolutely loves the hat and it keeps him warm and dry."

Not great quality

"Looked tatty after a couple of uses. Fleece lining only average quality. Expected better cos of price. Bought other branded hats from Cambridge that we much preferred."

Perfect toddler hat

"Lovely warm hat which doesn’t itch or get too hot. Great design that it can fall back like a good and not get lost. My two were in them every day last winter and spring, and we’re getting them out again now. 1-3yrs fits both my 1 and 3 year olds well and doesn’t seem too small yet for the 3 year old. Wash well and they never take them off or fuss about them. Lots of stars!"

The perfect hat for the London winter

"I was after a hat that's made of natural materials, is not too thick (after all, the winter in London is not the coldest), doesn't have a boring design and has ear flaps to make sure my toddler's ears are covered with the added bonus that he finds it easier to put it on himself which he greatly enjoys. This was the only one I found to tick all boxes and both my toddler and I love it! It fits him perfectly and he insists on wearing it even when it's not cold enough for a hat, so a definite success. The only thing I found slightly annoying is the strap, but that's easily cut off. I wish they had adult versions as well, I'd definitely get one for myself too if I could!"
