Merino wool is a kind of wool fibre that is very fine, soft and springy and is not itchy at all to most skins. The Merino sheep usually thrives in mountainous areas at high altitudes and its wool is naturally brilliant at keeping the body comfortable at a wide range of temperatures.
Relax's organic Merino wool is certified to GOTS organic standards by IVN. All certified organic wool comes from sheep which have been farmed organically and with high animal welfare standards. The organic status refers to all stages of manufaturing process from harvesting of the raw materials, through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing up to labeling in order to provide a credible assurance to the end consumer.
The wool is sourced from farms where the animals procreate in a natural way and any kind of change on the animal such as trimming the tail or mulesing are forbidden. In short – the sheep live a happy life!
Wool (and thus Merino wool) has many benefits including being anti-bacterial and allowing the body to regulate its own temperature. See the blog for more details.
Reiff's organic Merino wool is a very delicate fabric so care must be taken when washing. Relax recommends hand washing in cold water that is less than 10oc.
Use a detergent designed for wool which protects and repenishes wool's natural oils as sold in our fabric care category here.
To hand-wash your organic Merino wool, dilute your wool detergent in a bowl.
Add your woollens to the bowl, gently stirring and squeezing the detergent through. Rinse using cold water
To dry, gently squeeze water out and wrap your wool clothes in a towel to remove the excess water. Air-dry naturally avoiding direct heat. So, hanging on a drying rack over the bath is good, or on a clothes horse.
"These trousers are lovely over cloth nappies and I use them instead of a wrap sometimes. Only problem I found was that the stitching came undone at the gusset but easily sewn back up. Last for ages as lots of give and if too long can be rolled up and they stay rolled up."
This was washed... had to be careful

Sizing: A little generous
I'd recommend this to a friend.
"These are the equivalent of the adult leggings worn with everything. they are easy to put on, cosy enough for winter warmth yet perfect for crisp autumn or spring day too. The sizing is great as we bought these when baby was very new and she wore them through the spring over her big cloth nappies. Yet now that autumn is here, she's back in them again, looking snug as ever. Care is relatively easy as we have a separate bucket for wool items that need a special, low temperature wash with wool shampoo. Have given 4 rather than 5 stars as the design is simple and casual (rather than particularly stylish) however, I highly recommended them for everyday casual wear."
